Zoo + Beer = FUN!

Saturday was going to be a good day.  I could feel it.  First, I met fellow blogger Octohawk to drop off some fresh mullet filets for cooking.  We met at a McD’s around Disney.  I hated dragging her into that mayhem.  She made the astute observation that we were exchanging local produce in at tourist McD’s.  Ha!

Onto the even better event (no offense Octohawk).  A few months ago, I started getting into beer tasting.  I looked up local gastropubs (micro-brew restaurants) and found Fifty Brews.  Its quite a haul for me to get there, but in the name of a good beer, I’ll do it.

I found a beer festival in Tampa that I knew we needed to be at.  It was Wazoo put on by Lowry Park Zoo.  All the ticket proceeds go towards keeping the zoo open.  I get beer; they get to keep the zoo open.  A win-win if you ask me.  As a side note, I wonder if people would give more if they knew the fun they could have with it.  Sounds like a blog post.

We made our way over to Tampa a bit before the event began and nibbled on some grub at Bahama Breeze just before the Courtney Campbell.  Looking over the bay as we ate was a good reminder of why we are moving in that direction come the first of the year.

We had VIP passes for Wazoo which meant we got in a little earlier than the rest of the cattle.  There were 250 beers scattered around the zoo.  Music was jumping.  Tatoos were flowing as were Five Guys fries.

Just a great time.  So, the moral of the story is give a little and get beer in return.

What did you do with your weekend??

Sounds like you had a good time. I have a membership to the zoo and thought about going but I'm not a beer drinker. I guess it would have been fun anyway. Maybe next year!

I had a Bud Light with lime in it (that's how they bottle it). I was impressed, it gave it a little pep. Can you tell I don't drink much beer?

That's a good zoo. Sounds like a greay way to spend the weekend. (I'm trying to remember: Isn't that the zoo where they let you ride a camel?)

    Dina-There were a few non-beer stands.

Bob-I would have never known, unless you said something:)

TP-This was the first time I had been to the zoo, so I don't about the camel.

Damn! That sure beat the hell out of the rest of my Saturday. Beer and zoo sounds like heaven. Although with the month of sobriety I'm currently in the midst of, I suppose I couldn't have partaken anyway..
Good to meet you and thanks again! I'll let you know how the mullet turn out when I get around to making them (you threw a wrench in my smoking plans!).

PJ-Just give me a little time and I'll get you some huge sides for smoking. All you mullet friends will be jealous.

I had a great weekend but I wish I would have known about this Wazoo thing – my husband and I would have loved that. We actually live right behind Bahama Breeze ;)

Glad to come across your blog!
