Oystercatching

I’m not one for following what the calendar says I should doing. If I want to light fireworks, I may or may not do it on July 4th. If I want to give someone a gift, I’m not going to wait until Christmas or their birthday to do it. And if I want to say I love you, I’m might say and do it on another day than Valentine’s day.

That’s the way this year went. Valentine’s day fell during the week and it takes all the energy I can muster to get to work much less celebrate a dang holiday. So, I found a restaurant in Tampa that looked good but pricey and this looked like a good reason to try it.

Oystercatchers is located on the east of the Courtney Campbell Causeway before Pelican Island. It is in the Grand Hyatt hotel. I thought I might be a little disappointed with the restaurant, being that it was located in a hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised. Oystercatchers is tucked into the back of the property and sat right on the Gulf.

We sat outside and watched the sun set over Clearwater while we imbibed some Chardonnay. The seafood was great! You have to try the calamari fries, if you go. Unbelievable! TT had the lobster, which was better than my snapper.

This ain’t McD’s or Chilis, so bring you wallet and, maybe, your sports coat or dress. The only aspect of the dining experience that I was a little disappointed in was the service. It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t what the price of the menu dictated.

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend Valentine’s Day on my calendar not someone else’s calendar. And I’ll definitely be back!

Well thank you for that report, it sounds like you had a great time! My husband and I ride our bikes over there all the time – there is a little gazebo on the water behind that hotel and we often have a little picnic there. We recently noticed the Oystercatchers restaurant and now I can't wait to try it. I will save my pennies ;)
