This past weekend my mother in law flew in from the frozen tundra, aka Pennsylvania. So, we wanted to take her to a few places only found in Florida. Another words we weren’t hitting Chilis, Applebees, or Carrabas.
Friday night after I got out of the 9 to 5er, I met my wife and her mom at Stumps Supper Club located in the Channelside shopping center, adjecent to the Florida Aquarium. My wife and I had been to Stumps before, but it had been years ago. What got my juices flowing then was the fact that I ordered a “Tall Boy” beer not really knowing what it was. When it was delivered, it was a 20 Budweiser can of beer in a brown paper bag. The Southern culture was in full effect.
We went back this time to remember what we haven’t had in so many years. My wife and I got pulled pork sandwiches loaded with mustard slaw (not my favorite) and spicy bbq sauce. We both had cheese grits. The sandwich was respectable for a large touristy restaurant like Stumps, but the cheese grits were seriously lacking. Couldn’t even taste the cheese.
My mother in law got some ribs and green beans cooked in bacon grease. How can you go wrong with that combination?
The best part of the whole meal was sitting outside in 75-degree weather in February.
If you go, make sure you get the server to stamp you parking coin. It drops the price of parking from $10 to $1. You’ll definitely want to do that!
Have any of you ever been to Stumps? Thoughts?
