If I were a Bud Light or Pabst Blue Ribbon drinker finding beer would be as easy as going to Publix or the 7-11 on the corner. But those funneling nasty ass beer days are far behind me. You might say that I’m a beer snob, looking for that small microbrew that has the special kind of beer I like.
To that end, I stumbled on a liquor store in Riverview that carries a very nice selection of beer. Star Liquor is no Total Wine, but for their size, its impressive. They told me that if I ever wanted a special kind of beer, I only need to ask and they’ll do their best to get it.
I made that order only a few days after their offer. I told them I wanted Swamp Ape, a double India Pale Ale (DIPA) from Florida Beer Company (FBC) out of Melbourne, Florida. They quickly told me that they’ve been trying to get this beer to their store for ages but no one from the brewery would return their phone calls.

I contacted what turned out to be the brewer on Twitter. We went back and forth a few times on how to get Swamp Ape to Star Liquor. The owners of Star Liquor called me the next day saying that a representative from FBC came to their store promising cases would come. In addition the rep left me some swag, which was a great show of character. And, hell, it was pretty cool gifts!
Yesterday, I went and picked up an entire case of Swamp Ape from Star Liquor. Just another way that social media is enhancing my life and my beer snobbery. Thanks Florida Beer Co. and Star Liquor for making my life a little hoppier.
